Kitchen Display System for Restaurants

Keep your kitchen team focused on what needs to be prepared, what is already cooking, and what is ready to go. Kappino’s Kitchen Display System gives your restaurant a live digital view of incoming orders, routes menu categories and specific items to the right kitchen environments, and helps teams move orders through preparation with clear status control.

Your Kitchen Needs a Clearer Order Workflow

During busy service, the kitchen needs more than a list of orders. Teams need to know which orders are new, which items are being prepared, what is ready, and which station is responsible for each part of the order.

Kappino’s Kitchen Display System brings that information into one live kitchen workspace. Orders can be organized by kitchen environment, while menu categories and individual items can be assigned to the stations where they are prepared.

Instead of making kitchen teams work through a general order queue, Kappino gives each station a focused view of the work assigned to it.

  • Teams often need to:
  • 01 See new orders as soon as they arrive
  • 02 Know which items are being prepared
  • 03 Route items to the correct kitchen station
  • 04 Keep preparation status visible to the team
  • 05 Know which orders are ready for service

Everything Your Kitchen Needs to Stay in Sync

Kappino gives kitchen teams a clear view of active orders and the tools to organize preparation around the way your restaurant actually works.

Kitchen Environments

Create separate kitchen environments for different preparation areas such as Pizza, Drinks, Salad or other stations in your restaurant, plus an optional catch-all station and an Unassigned items board so nothing slips through.

Category-Based Routing

Assign menu categories to a kitchen environment so items from selected categories are sent to the station responsible for preparing them.

Item-Level Routing

Assign individual menu items to a specific kitchen environment when a dish needs a more precise preparation workflow.

Live Order Status

View orders by All, New, Cooking and Ready status so kitchen teams can quickly understand what needs attention.

Ticket Time Visibility

Every ticket shows how long it has been waiting. Timers turn amber at 8 minutes and red at 15 minutes, and the header shows the average ticket time for the service.

Item-Level Check-Off

Tap a dish to move it from New to Preparing to Completed, or use Start all to begin a whole ticket in one tap. Mark ready and Bump order when it is done.

Tickets Split Across Stations

When an order spans several stations, each one sees only its own lines, with a badge such as “2 of 5 lines” and a “waiting for other stations” note once its part is done.

Every Detail on the Ticket

Extras, removed ingredients, kitchen notes, the guest's seat and the preparation order for each dish appear on the ticket, and dishes added after the order was sent are clearly marked as added.

How Kappino’s Kitchen Display System Works

01

Create a Kitchen Environment

Create a dedicated kitchen environment for a preparation area such as Pizza Station, Drinks, Salad or another part of your kitchen.

02

Assign Menu Categories

Select the menu categories that should be sent to the selected kitchen environment. This gives your restaurant control over where different types of menu items are prepared.

03

Assign Specific Menu Items

For more precise control, select individual menu items and send them to a specific environment. This is useful when a particular dish needs to be handled by a specific station.

04

Receive and Prepare Orders

Once orders enter the kitchen workflow, they appear on the display straight away. Teams can view active tickets, use the All, New and Cooking views, and start a single dish or the whole ticket.

05

Mark Items and Orders Ready

As preparation is completed, kitchen staff can mark items ready and use the Bump action to move completed work forward.

Keep Kitchen Service Moving With Better Visibility

Reduce Order Confusion

Keep order information visible on the kitchen display instead of relying on scattered instructions or repeated communication between teams.

Keep Stations Focused

Route menu categories and specific items to the appropriate kitchen environments so teams can concentrate on the work assigned to their station.

See What Needs Attention

Use New, Cooking and Ready views to understand the current state of kitchen work without searching through the entire order flow.

Improve Kitchen Handoffs

Mark completed items and use Bump to make readiness visible as orders move through preparation.

Adapt the Workflow to Your Menu

Configure environments around your actual menu structure, from broad category routing to individual item assignments.

Kitchen Display System FAQ

What is a Kitchen Display System?
A Kitchen Display System (KDS) is a digital kitchen workflow that displays restaurant orders on a screen so kitchen teams can see, prepare and update orders without relying on a separate manual kitchen process. Kappino’s KDS connects this workflow with its restaurant order and POS system.
What does Kappino’s Kitchen Display System do?
Kappino’s Kitchen Display System displays active restaurant orders, organizes them by kitchen environment, supports category and individual-item routing, and lets kitchen teams manage New, Cooking and Ready order states.
Can I create different kitchen stations in Kappino?
Yes. Kappino lets restaurants create separate kitchen environments for different preparation areas, such as Pizza Station, Drinks, Salad or other stations used by the restaurant.
Can I assign menu categories to a kitchen station?
Yes. When creating or editing a kitchen environment, you can select menu item categories that should be sent to that environment.
Can I assign individual menu items to a kitchen station?
Yes. Kappino also allows specific menu items to be assigned to a kitchen environment. This provides more precise routing when an individual dish needs a different preparation location.
Can kitchen staff track order status from the KDS?
Yes. The KDS provides All, New, Cooking and Ready views so kitchen teams can focus on the current stage of preparation.
Can kitchen staff mark orders as ready?
Yes. Kitchen teams can mark preparation as ready and use the Bump action to move completed work forward in the kitchen workflow.
How does the KDS show orders that are running late?
Each ticket has a timer. It turns amber at 8 minutes and red at 15 minutes, so the team can see at a glance which orders need attention, and the header shows the average ticket time.
What happens on the KDS when an order is changed after it was sent?
When front of house edits an order, only the new dishes are sent to the kitchen and they are marked as added on the ticket. Dishes already cooking keep their status.
Does Kappino include Kitchen Display System functionality?
Kappino publicly lists Kitchen Display System as part of its restaurant feature set and includes Kitchen Management in its public package comparison. Use the live pricing component for current plan-level details.
Does Kappino connect the KDS with restaurant orders?
Yes. Kappino connects POS and order management with kitchen workflows, allowing confirmed orders to move into the kitchen preparation process.
Can Kappino support different types of restaurants?
